Think of professional installation as preventive maintenance. The best windows and doors in the world can still lead to problems if they are not properly installed. Spending a little more for professional installation today can save you money in the long run by preventing problems ranging from drafts - and higher energy bills, to water infiltration, and repair bills.

The Olsen team has over 150 years of collective experience in the supply and installation of windows and doors. We understand how best to install the products to ensure that they live up to their performance promises, and we don't take shortcuts.

There are two common methods of window installation:

  • Inserting the new window in the existing frame
  • Replacing the entire window, including its frame

At first glance, the insert method is attractive - it generally takes less time to do and may therefore be less expensive.

When new windows are inserted in an old frame, however, there is a risk that the old frame may not be perfectly square. If it isn't, it will be difficult - sometimes impossible - to install the new window plumb and square, resulting in drafts and possibly water infiltration. Fitting new windows into an old frame also reduces the size of the glass area that can be enjoyed by the home owner.

The Olsen Home Exteriors philosophy is to completely replace old windows.

Replacing the old windows and frames entirely may take longer to install and cost more. However, by going right down to the raw framing, the installer can ensure that the window frames are square so the new windows will fit perfectly, and that the house frame is free from damage.

Completely removing the existing windows also gives the installer a chance to ensure that there is insulation between the window frame and the house frame. In many older homes there will not be existing insulation, and this is a major source of heat loss. When replacing windows, the addition of insulation can take place before the new windows are installed.

In the long run, the replacement method makes for a better result, and the installation cost can be offset through lower energy bills over the life of the window.

One stop shopping.

When the Olsen team supplies and installs your windows and doors, we ensure that our installation price reflects the actual job that needs to be done.

We'll visit your home and assess key factors such as the age and condition of the home, and the number, shape and size of the windows and doors. This step is key to providing an accurate quote.

An Olsen quote includes removing the old windows, installing the new windows and replacing the exterior and interior trim. We also do the structural work required for bay windows.

When we remove your old windows, we may find structural damage that was not evident on the initial visual inspection. If we find damage, we'll let you know, and can provide you with a quote to repair it.

We'll be there for you.

We deliver on our written workmanship warranty with good old-fashioned after sales service. If you have a problem with your windows or doors, call us. We'll send a supervisor to your house to assess the problem and take the necessary steps to get it rectified as soon as possible.
